Most likely you are aware of all of this, but we constantly need to be reminded. The following 6 tips will help you save energy and be more productive so you can run your art business.
Talking to someone, anyone, means looking them in the eye and connecting. Clients, agents, manufacturers and every person you talk to. This gains trust. However, when you stop to check a text or answer a call, it’s the biggest downer and shows that you are not actually in the present with that person. This can ruin your chances for a contract and for that relationship to grow. When someone does that to me, my red flags pop up. Don’t sabotage yourself.
We are all guilty of this at some time especially when we get really busy and this harms our productivity. Short-wavelength light is important to our moods. This blue light affects our energy and sleep quality and it’s found in sunlight. It makes us feel awake. Makes sense, right?
Therefore, at night, when we need to prepare our creative brains to be silent and sleepy, tablets, phones and computers, which emit that same light in shorter wavelengths disrupts the ability to fall asleep. You don’t reach those deep levels of sleep and you will not be as productive as you would like. TV, when you are far enough away from it is not quite as bad. I know so many of us love Netflix.
The Internet has become what I see as a drug. I will admit that there are times when I have not realized how long I was on and there goes productivity. Then I am upset with myself and I’m on the hamster wheel of regret. Not good on any level.
Fifteen minutes into any project we are in a state of flow and once broken by interruptions it takes us that much time to get back into our project. The dings and bells and clangs of notifications, the phone ringing and the clinking sounds of texts coming in all break our concentration.
Turn it all off and/or make it silent.
You must learn that only you can take the accountability that you need for your self-control and say, “no” in a diplomatic manner. “I would love to do that another time, however, right now I am not able.” Remember too, that excuses are almost always unnecessary.
Saying yes to a client when you know you have no time can ruin that interaction. We have all been there. It needs to stop so that we can give only our best to those we are working with at the time.
You do not need to go to everything that is going on. Showing your face for a few minutes might work and allow yourself to leave early. Take control of your time. No, is a powerful two letters. Why stress out while you are there while you are doing something half-mast. It turns it into negativity. “Let me think about” is a great buffer. Stick to your choices.
The Gossip Grip
Stop. It is the worst form of lost integrity. There is so much to talk about rather than another’s life or misfortune. You are not perfect and with luck, no one is talking about it. If you are hearing it from someone, you know it’s going to be a rinse and repeat with you.
Of course we talk about people and it should be in a good way. That energy sends our energy into a better space. When someone starts gossiping, just tell them you are not comfortable talking about them because they are not there. It will stop it and everyone can move on.
You will find that if you take responsibility and control over your own life, you will attract others who do the same. It’s one thing to tell someone on FB that you are happy for them when they have a win and it’s truly something else to FEEL it and mean it.
